I would imagine it's one of those schools where they go to learn to be pioneers, or is that only in Bethel?

WT seals it's own fate
by Waymores Ghost inin it's quest to be the spotless, shining beacon for all the world to see, the wt's continuing policies regarding sexual/child abuse have produced the opposite effect.
common sense would tell you that if a religious organization had a policy of immediately requesting police to investigate when a victim comes forth with an accusation, outsiders could see that this kind of behaviour is not tolerated in the least.
people would welcome that kind of transparancy.. actually, the wt sealed it's fate when it decided it could declare itself the only religious organization without blemish, because of course, it is the one true religion.

I commend you for standing your ground and sticking to your convictions. However, I don't think you should have told him "I hope you never do leave," especially after calling his group a cult.
I think deep down, a lot of them have doubts and want to leave, but they don't have the courage to do so. I know when I went back one time, a few of them mentioned that almost every JW has doubts at some point. However, one of them said that he has never seen the "other shoe fall yet," so it must be good. Yeah.... Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

Joanne's Anagram updates
by Dogpatch injoanne's amazing anagrams!
one of the things that helped joanne cope with being brought up in a religious cult, was her fantastic sense of humour and her love of reading.
joanne told me that she and a friend used to be so board during the meetings, they would play word games just to pass the time.

Wow, those are really clever. Some of the results are sort of freaky, because the anagrams reveal what is really hidden.

They have nothing to loose by shunning
by garybuss inif my attitude toward the shunners is to be waiting for them with a full pardon, waiting for them to quit shunning me so i can shower them with love as their reward for being jerks, they have nothing to lose by continuing the shunning.
they don't have a dog in the fight.
if children who shun parents were notified by the parents that they will loose their inheritance if they continue the shunning, all of a sudden they have something to loose by shunning.. .

I said "Will they eat the food I send home with you, in two days?" He siad they wouldn't. Gee.. I wonder if it was sacrificed to an idol?
That's ridiculous, but at the same time, not surprising. The JWs are way too black and white and carry some of their beliefs a bit too far. I mean c'mon, there is nothing wrong with a family get together. So it happens to be around a holiday? Big damn deal. Get over it.

This is yet another instance of abiding by the letter of the law, but missing the point. Ironically, they have WT articles about this very subject all the time.
I don't believe in outright, black and white shunning. Sure, you don't want to get mixed up in the wrong crowd, but that doesn't mean talking to somebody in that crowd for a couple of minutes is going to pull you to the dark side. If it does, then you're the one with serious problems, not the other person.
There is a huge difference between extending humane common courtesy to people and rubbing elbows.

Oiuji boards
by got my forty homey? inok, so we all know that the society if against ouija boards.
but even many "worldy" spirtualist and ufo types say ouija boards are dangerous.. so, have any of you ever messed around with one?.
i did with my wife and sister in law and all it spewed out was meaningless garbage.

In school, a bunch of people were messing around with one. It's kind of funny, because one kid shut his eyes and thought somebody was moving the thing, when nobody was touching it. His eyes grew as big as dinner plates, he did a double take, and he walked away from the board slowly.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Movie Can Help Witnesses See Truth
by hooberus inin the arnold schwarzenegger movie "the sixth day" (not to be confused with "end of days") people are cloned by having their brain memory pattern copied and saved on a disk.
human bodies without memories called "blanks" are also made.
at the appropriate time the duplicate memory pattern is stamped onto the "blank" human body.

The JW doctrine is wrong in this case because they don't believe in the immortality of the soul. But what if we really do have a soul that is still preserved after death? Then it would be the real us, and not some clone. Just a thought.

The fire was not believed to be a hate crime.
"We found there's no direct motive of an anti-religious activity," state Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said.
At any case, I'm sure the JWs in the congregation will use the incident to ramble about how they are right because they are persecuted, are in Satan's world, can't trust people outside of the congregation, blah blah blah etc. etc.
